This online course consists of 3 successive Modules. Module 1 elaborates on general knowledge about Intellectual Disabilities, Module 2 elaborates on communication with persons with Intellectual Disabilities, while Module 3 focuses on the interaction with persons with Intellectual Disabilities in the context of secondary and tertiary healthcare services. In addition, there is available information about the legislation framework of the rights of persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Module 1 and Module 3.
The scope of this course is to enhance healthcare professionals’ general knowledge on Intellectual Disabilities, as well as healthcare professionals’ insight into the challenges of living with Intellectual Disabilities. Information on the Legal Rights of persons with Intellectual Disabilities can help healthcare professionals to advocate in favor of these rights. Moreover, this course aims to enrich healthcare professionals with effective communication skills which can be applied when interacting with persons with Intellectual Disabilities, in order to promote their accessibility to secondary and tertiary healthcare.
