Automated Bioimage Analysis (4 ECTS)

Entry requirements: Passed the course Bioimage Informatics 1 (BIMA3209), Basic Bioimage Informatics (BIMA3220) or similar knowledge

Learning outcomes:

After the course student:
• understands the motivation for methods used in automated image analysis
• knows how to apply and build pipelines for automated quantitative analysis of microscope images
• understands why and how to validate image analysis pipelines
• is able to make justified selection of approaches for producing quantitative analysis for image data

Content

This course focuses on how to handle multi-dimensional images and how automation enables analysis of big datasets. The course covers the following topics:
• 3D image visualization of medical and biological images
• Automated image analysis and batch processing
• Machine learning and deep learning

Learning methods                   

Online material including examples, quizzes, assignments. Course is tutored by teachers and there are regular deadlines.

Teaching language: English

Evaluation and evaluation criteria:                

Passed/failed. Approved online exercises.

Timetable: 5-8 weeks, Summer 2024, starting 27.5.2023.
