Learning outcomes:

  • Learn the elements of the data life cycle in the manufacturing environment
  • Develop appreciation of data-driven approach over top-down goal-oriented approach in manufacturing and the key functional and non-functional challenges associated with actualizing data-driven approaches
  • Understand the software architecture/logical components (aka. IoT data fabric) needed to realize manufacturing as a data-driven practice at scale in an industrial framework
  • Learn about tools/approaches for softwarization (aka. Digital Twinning) of the manufacturing environment to support prediction and optimization of the behavior of a production system and its components (i.e., learning based automation)
  • Learn the next frontier of smart manufacturing: Artificial Intelligence/Large Language Model and 6G assisted Customized Manufacturing to support the requirements of individual customers at production lines
  • Case study: Real-time situational awareness in manufacturing environment using tools/concepts introduced in the module
