Orientation to Finnish social welfare and health care is an independent online study unit open to everyone. The online course is designed for foreign nurses who want to work as a nurse in Finland. 

The e-learning course has been developed as part of the Continuing Professional Education for nurses granted with a Diploma in General Nursing outside the EU/EEA project, and funded by the Centre for Continuing Learning and Employment (JOTPA).

The training has been funded by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment. The Service Centre promotes the competence development of working-age people and the availability of skilled labour. The operations of the Service Centre are overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

How to study

 

The Orientation to Finnish Social Welfare and Health Care course consists of three different sections. The sections contain the course material and all the instructions for the different tasks of the course. First, you should read the course guidelines in detail.

To complete the course, you will need to study independently. You can work independently online at your own pace throughout the course. The course is 3 ECTS, which equals to 81 hours of student time.

 

Part 1/ 1 ECT:

Welcome to learn about the systems and legislation governing the social and health sectors in Finland. The aim of this course is to familiarise you with the service systems and legislation in the social and health care sector.

 

By the end of the course, students will have become familiar with

  •   the different systems and legislation in the field of social and health services in Finland.
  •   after the course, the student will be able to search for the necessary information on the service systems of the SOTE sectors in Finland.

Part 2/ 1 ECT

Welcome to learn more about the ethical issues of nursing in Finland. The purpose of this section is to introduce you to the ethical issues and guidelines in the field of health care in Finland.

After completing this course, the student will be familiar with

  • Ethical guidelines for health care in Finland.
  • Ethical guidelines and their importance in nursing in Finland.

Part 3/ 1 ECT

Welcome to learn more about patient safety in healthcare in Finland. The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the Client and Patient Safety Strategy and the requirements for its implementation in nursing.

By the end of the course, students will be familiar with

  • Health care patient safety issues in nursing in Finland
  • After the course the student will understand the importance of patient safety in nursing.
