Welcome to the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) course! The topic of this course revolves around evidence-informed decision making (EiD) in OSH from a global and a national perspective.
Objectives
The
course is intended for independent study. Those specializing in
occupational health care and their training doctors can complete the
course and receive a certificate on completion, which requires
registration for the course. Visitors can familiarize themselves with
the course, but cannot do assignments and do not receive a certificate
from the course.
During this course you can expect to:
- Learn who are important decision makers in OSH and about their roles and responsibilities in Finland.
- Learn where to find and how to identify good quality studies and systematic reviews.
- Learn how are reliable clinical practice guidelines developed and where to find them in and outside of Finland.

Learn about international networks that support evidence informed OSH
decisions, such as Cochrane Work, WHO, ILO, EU-OSHA and NIOSH.
- The aim and structure of occupational health systems in Europe (including Finland) (Introduction)
-Important decision makers and the role of evidence in OSH decision making (Section 1)
- The quality of research evidence and how and where to find and identify it (Section 2)
- Relevant international networks that support evidence-informed decision making in OSH (Section 3)
The course includes reading materials, videos, self-study exercises, quizzes, a final exam and a feedback form, which requires a maximum of ten (10) hours from students to complete.
Successful course completion: After completing the course, you get five (5) hours of theory training, if you pass the final exam included in it and give feedback on the course.
