Welcome to the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) course! The topic of this course revolves around evidence-informed decision making (EiD) in OSH from a global and a national perspective.
Objectives
The course is intended for independent study. Those specializing in occupational health care and their training doctors can complete the course and receive a certificate on completion, which requires registration for the course. Visitors can familiarize themselves with the course, but cannot do assignments and do not receive a certificate from the course.
During this course you can expect to:
- Learn who are important decision makers in OSH and about their roles and responsibilities in Finland.
- Learn where to find and how to identify good quality studies and systematic reviews.
- Learn how are reliable clinical practice guidelines developed and where to find them in and outside of Finland.
- Learn about international networks that support evidence informed OSH decisions, such as Cochrane Work, WHO, ILO, EU-OSHA and NIOSH.
The course supports the learning objective EPA 1.1 Developing an action plan and also supports professional expertise.
Content and methods: The course covers an introduction to
- The aim and structure of occupational health systems in Europe (including Finland) (Introduction)
-Important decision makers and the role of evidence in OSH decision making (Section 1)
- The quality of research evidence and how and where to find and identify it (Section 2)
- Relevant international networks that support evidence-informed decision making in OSH (Section 3)
The course includes reading materials, videos, self-study exercises, quizzes, a final exam and a feedback form, which requires a maximum of 10 hours from students to complete.
Successful course completion: After completing the course, you get 5 hours of theory training, if you pass the final exam included in it and give feedback on the course.
