Accessibility

Accessibility means that the online service is designed to be used by everyone.  Accessibility refers to non-hindered access to the online world. Accessibility means that as many different people as possible are able to easily use the online service.

An accessible online service is technically flawless, it has a clear user interface and its content is understandable.

Web Accessibility Directive

This website is subject to the Digital Services Act, which states that public online services must be accessible. This means that the web service must meet the requirements of levels A and AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.

The Web Accessibility Directive, which came into force in 2019, regulates that the websites and mobile services of the public sector must be accessible. The Act also applies to public companies operating in water and energy management as well as traffic and postal services’ sectors, and operators in the financial sector. The Act will also apply to organisations that receive more than half of their funding from public entities.

The application of the accessibility requirements was initiated in stages and conformity is supervised in Finland by the Finnish Transport and Communication Agency. The legal requirements and relevant guidelines shall be published on the saavutettavuusvaatimukset.fi (www.webaccessibility.fi/) website.

Accessibility of the website

The website partially meets the requirements, and it has the following shortcomings:

  • The heading levels of the blocks do not progress logically; the same issue appears in the course table of contents.
  • Selecting identifiers causes a visual change that is not programmatically expressed.

●        1.4.4 Resize Text – Level AA

  • Text in H5P application paragraphs cannot be enlarged.

●        2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide – Level A

  • There is no stop button in the carousel.

●        2.4.2 Page Titled – Level A

  • The "Analytics Charts" block on the materials opened page lacks a title.

●        2.5.3 Label in Name – Level A

  • The visible name in the language menu does not match the accessible name.

●        3.1.1 Language of Page – Level A

  • The language of the "Analytics Graphs" block on the analytics pages is not defined.

●        4.1.2 Name, Role, Value – Level A

  • The "Analytics Graphs" block on the analytics pages lacks identifiers for the selection buttons.
